ABOUT US

Tutor helping struggling child with math and science

Shumaila’s passion for education started during her junior year of high school, when she volunteered at a non-profit organization teaching Mathematics and English to elementary and middle school students. The satisfaction of helping children grow academically and socially was something she had not experienced previously. This passion for teaching led her to persue a Master’s degree in Education. She graduated from University of Houston with Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction with certification in elementary education. Over the years, Shumaila has worked with students of all ages from preschool to high school grade levels at various public and private schools. She is very passionate and believes that she can use her knowledge and experience to help students in her community develop strong academic skills and become self-motivated individuals. Shumaila enjoys giving time back to the community through her continuous participation in community events focusing on early childhood development and continuing education programs.

Our Head instructor, Anila Badarpura is a well qualified instructor who loves to work with students to help them achieve their goals. With a Masters degree in Curriculum & Instruction, she is enthusiastic in improving students’ academic performance and building student confidence. She has a thorough understanding of the Rotational Approach to Learning system and believes in the wonders that it can do to help the students in our community.

Mariah Collins is our enthusiastic instructor who developed her passion for teaching when she volunteered as a reading tutor during her college years. After her volunteer work with the non-profit organization, she began considering a rewarding career within the field of education. Prior to joining the Tutoring Center’s team of instructors, she was working with elementary school students in improving their reading and math skills. She is enthusiastic about helping students to achieve academic success and hopes to inspire a love of learning. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, with an option in creative writing, and graduated with honors from California State University, East Bay.

Our classrooms feature an intense learning environment that combines “The Rotational Approach to Learning” and One-To-One Instruction. Both methods were developed by Edward S.Thalheimer, Ph.D., founder of THE TUTORING CENTER. Our innovative system gives your child far more One-to-One Instruction than he or she will ever receive in a classroom full of children, or even in a small group.

You have many choices available for your child, and we want you to make the choice that's in your child's best interest. For instance, many schools provide after-school tutoring or intervention programs for students who are having difficulty in school, and maybe your child has been offered one in the past. Even though these programs are free to families, current research indicates that these programs are inefficient and time-consuming. Since they focus mostly on completing your child's homework, they can not offer you a permanent solution. While school-based tutoring may provide your child with short-term homework help, THE TUTORING CENTER's intense One-to-One Instruction and "The Rotational Approach to Learning™" actually provide your child with long-term skills that will last a lifetime.
